On 1st of October a great adventure begins for you. Not only does it mean exploring the fascinating world of humanities and science but also getting to know Poland, the Poles and the variety of our culture.

As we would like to help you facing this challenge, we take the pleasure to invite you to the Workshops on cultural orientation which will take place on 25th – 26th of September and on 27th -28thof September from 10 am to 5 pm on the University Main Campus.

Welcome Point UW organizuje warsztaty z orientacji kulturowej dla nowo przybyłych studentów zagranicznych. Warsztaty, skierowane do studentów pierwszego roku, zostaną przeprowadzone przez przedstawicieli Międzynarodowej Organizacji do spraw Migracji 25-26 oraz 27-28 września 2017 r. Zajęcia będą prowadzone w języku angielskim, a swoim zakresem obejmą kwestie praktyczne dotyczące życia w Polsce oraz studiowania na Uniwersytecie, a także zagadnienia z komunikacji międzykulturowej.

On 1st of October a great adventure begins for you. This means not only exploring the fascinating world of humanities and science but also getting to know Poland, the Poles and the variety of our culture.

As we would like to help you facing this challenge, we take the pleasure to invite you to the workshops on cultural orientation which will take place on 25th - 26th of September and on 27th -28th of September from 10 am to 5 pm on the University Main Campus.

Specialists from the International Organization for Migration will present information about Poland that you can't google and teach you cross-cultural communication.

The programme of the meeting includes:

  • practical information about living in Poland (the costs of living, public services, transportation, banks, values and concepts specific to Poland);
  •  health care (overview of the medical system, insurance, what to do in emergency situation, the rights of the patients);
  • laws, rights and responsibilities (basic laws and rules which govern the country, visa and resident card information, public institutions and services, commonly broken laws);
  • housing (finding accommodation, rights and responsibilities as a renter or tenant, interpreting a lease, costs of housing, safety measures in the house, registration);
  • education (rules at the university, educational system for students);
  • cultural adaptation, cross-cultural communication.

The workshop will be conducted in English and will be held on 25th - 26th of September and on 27th -28th of September from 10 am to 5 pm on the University Main Campus (exact place will be given to the accepted participants).

Please note that there is no possibility of attending only a part or only one day of the workshop.

Cultural Orientation Workshop for Warsaw University 2017

The purpose of the cultural orientation workshop is to prepare foreign students for the first stages of their life in Poland. Once completed the participants would have a more realistic sense and expectation for how to successfully adapt in a new culture.

The goal is to educate the participants by exposing them to new ways of thinking, feeling and acting and to help them to integrate the lessons into their everyday lives.

Day 1

Introduction

Information about Poland that you can't google

Practical information about living in Poland (cost of living, public services, transportation, budget, bank, values and concepts specific to Poland)

Heath Care (overview of the medical system, insurance, what to do in emergency situation, patients' rights)

Day 2

Laws, Rights and Responsibilities (Basic laws and rules that govern the country, visa and resident card information, public institutions and services, commonly broken laws)

Housing (finding accommodation, rights and responsibilities as a renter or tenant, interpreting a lease, costs of housing, safety measures in the house, registration)

Education (rules at the university, educational system for students, educational possibilities)

Evaluation
