FACULTY OF POLISH STUDIES
CLASSICAL STUDIES

Classical studies

The Institute of Classical Studies offers classes in classical philology, encompassing Old Greek and Latin philology, ancient culture and its influence on modern European cultures, as well as New Latin and New Greek studies.

The programme offered by the Institute of Classical Studies is divided into two levels: upon successful completion of the third year, the student is awarded a bachelor's degree, and after two more years - a master's degree. Students can choose between the following two specializations at the beginning of their studies: classical philology and ancient culture.

The range of courses offered by the Institute of Classical Studies broadens every year and includes interdisciplinary problems and extracurricular classes in epigraphics, patristics, Renaissance literature and thought, ancient rhetoric, and the New Greek language. The labour market position of people with such a broad-based liberal arts education is very good and they are highly valued and sought-after by employers (research institutes, libraries, archives, publishing houses, the mass media). Students also develop and master didactic and pedagogical skills (methodology classes and classroom practice in secondary schools), which gives them qualifications to teach the Latin language and ancient culture in secondary schools.

In May 2001, the Conference of Polish University Rectors accepted a motion proposed by the University Committee of Accreditation to grant the Institute of Classical Studies accreditation for five years (certificate No. 30/2001).

Students are required to be fluent in Polish.
