Baltic studies

The Department of General Linguistics and Baltic Studies offers a full-time, five-year master's programme in Baltic studies. There are two specialisations: Lithuanian spacialisation (Lithuanian culture, language and literature) and Latvian specialisation (Latvian culture, language and literature). Besides classes in general linguistics and literary studies, the programme includes: practical study of the Lithuanian and Latvian languages, the history of the Baltic states, general information about the Baltic states, descriptive and historical grammar of the Lithuanian language, descriptive grammar of the Latvian language, the history of Lithuania and the Baltic states, the history of Lithuanian and Latvian literature, as well as specialisation seminars such as Lithuanian dialectology, cultural anthropology, Lithuanian poetics and versification, psycholinguistics, general linguistics, Indo-European linguistics, reading Old Prussian texts etc.

The Department of General Linguistics and Baltic Studies also offers lectures, classes and seminars in general linguistics for Polish and Cultural studies students (as well as students in other philological fields).

Students are required to be fluent in Polish.
